How do injuries happen? While products such as baby furniture, swimming pools, toys, household cleaning products, etc. have regulatory safety requirements and recommendations, preventable injuries still happen. Often unintentional injuries from the use of various products occur, such as drowning from exposure to swimming pools, falling from stairs, poisoning or suffocation, for example. These injuries among children, generally occur from a slight gap in supervision near swimming pools, stairs or hot surfaces in the kitchen, to the lack of using equipment such as bicycle helmets or car seats properly. Injuries also happen from intentional mechanisms such as violence and abuse. However because it is natural for children to model behaviors from their parents and caregivers it is common that patterns of behaviors, some healthy and some unhealthy, have been learned and practiced by parents today. Many behaviors that parents model to their children now are often those that were patterned. This is what is observed in abuse patterns. We offer awareness, solutions and programs to help parents so they can model positive, healthy behaviors to their children.
How can you help prevent injuries? With proper layers of protection, safety equipment and healthy lifestyles can significantly reduce the risk of injury and keep your family safe. See the pages to the right for preventive measures.
