Pro Consumer Safety provides pediatricians with injury prevention, evidence-based health education and preventive services and resources to help reduce exposure to pediatric injury risk and promote healthy lifestyles among families. This information and services range from child passenger safety, sports safety, safety in and around cars and the home, and parent/teen programs to reduce risk of adolescent risk behavior.

Services for Patients

Car Seat Installation and Education

These patient cards are available to download and print to distribute to patients with children. Pro Car Seat Safety, provides a 24/7 mobile service to teach parents and caregivers how to install, test and use their car seat properly, including restraining their child correctly. While this service is for parents with any age of child, we also have certified National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPST), who are also Certified Master Health Education Specialists who specialize with assisting expecting parents and those with newborns. 

The service is mobile throughout southern California and provides similar services nationwide with the National Car Seat Call Center. Once patients use the service, they can contact their CPST in the future for questions.

• Protective facial masks are worn, including gloves, with newborns

​Car Seat Installation and Education Services (Telehealth)

• Provides similar car seat installation and education services throughout the United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and territories. The telehealth, virtual sessions use Behavioral Skills Training, similar to in-person, therefore the educational component is the same in person or virtual.

while most unintentional injuries occur in the home, as pediatricians recognize expecting parents, we recommend having a home safety assessment (childproofing services) by the time the child is 7 or 8 months old.

Letter Release: Getting through the loss of a loved one
Tools for adults and parents for children 

Losing a loved one is one of life’s most challenging experiences, and it can be especially overwhelming for not only adults, but also children and teens. To support them during this difficult time, engaging in a "Letter Release" activity can be a helpful tool. This simple yet meaningful exercise, can help you, or your child or tee, which allows one to express their feelings and thoughts, helping them navigate their grief—whether it’s the loss of a relative, friend, or even a beloved pet. Spica Cast Car Seat Loaner Program

While the Spica Cast Car Seat Loaner Program is a hospital-based program for children 5 and younger, we often receive calls from pediatric patients who have been treated with a temporary Spica cast (Hip Dysplasia or upper or lower limb fracture) and need a special needs car seat. Remember there are no traditional car seats that are legally allowed or designed for children in Spica casts. Therefore, they need a special needs car seat and generally the Merritt Wallenberg car seat. We can assist patients directly with a special needs' car seat rental for the duration of the treatment.
