It is against California law (V.C. Section 15620) to leave a child under the age of seven alone in the car without the supervision of a person at least 12 years old if: 

• The keys are in the ignition or the car is running, or 
• There is a significant risk to the child

Never leave your Child Alone in a Motor Vehicle

Look before you lock your vehicle to make sure you have not left a child in the back seat. Every year children under the age of 2 years, die from heatstroke from being left alone in motor vehicles.

Place reminders on the floor by your baby such as a purse, briefcase, mobile phone, something you need at your destination to remind you to take your baby with you. Always take your baby with you before leaving your car and never leave them alone for a moment.

Look Before You Back

Children are most at risk of back overs and front overs when vehicles are backing out of a driveway or when in a parking lot.​

​Know the blind zones of your vehicle and always walk around your vehicle before backing. 
Keep in mind when backing in the morning when children are on sidewalks either walking, skating, running or riding a bike on their way to school, or even when playing on the weekend.
