It is against California law (V.C. Section 15620) to leave a child under the age of seven alone in the car without the supervision of a person at least 12 years old if:
- The keys are in the ignition or the car is running, or
- There is a significant risk to the child
Never leave your Child Alone in a Motor VehicleLook before you lock your vehicle to make sure you have not left a child in the back seat. Every year children under the age of 2 years, die from heatstroke from being left alone in motor vehicles.
Place reminders on the floor by your baby such as a purse, briefcase, mobile phone, something you need at your destination to remind you to take your baby with you. Always take your baby with you before leaving your car and never leave them alone for a moment. |
