New Year's
New Year's Plans
Driving:
If you drive-DON'T DRINK! If you drink-DON'T DRIVE! Stay the night with a friend or at a hotel, get a ride with a sober friend, take a taxi, etc. Just Don’t Drink and Drive! Remember a designated driver can be part of the Designated Driver VIP (DDVIP). Includes free non-alcoholic drinks for designated drivers (specific locations in California only). |
Drinking:
If you drink on New Year’s Eve, in addition to not driving, also keep your drink with you-do not set it down and pick up again later. It can be dangerous if someone spikes your drink while it’s unattended. If you plan on popping champagne bottles on New Year’s, aim the cork away from people. |
Public Events:
If you attend one of the many public events, it's always best to go with a friend or in a group. Always be beware of your surroundings especially if there are many drinking around you in an unfamiliar place. Keep your mobile phone with you at all times and make sure it is fully charged before going. Be prepared! |
Pet's: Second to July 4th in America is New Year’s Eve when pets get out, become lost and frightened from panic and noise at midnight. Make sure pets are secure either in the home or fences and gates are secure. Make sure your pet has its ID or dog license. If your pet has a microchip, make sure information is current. If you have had problems with your pet during celebration festivities, ask your veterinarian about options. When keeping pets indoors, make sure it is a comfortable room, with soft background music playing to help reduce any scary noises from outside.

New Year's and Children
Here are a few ideas for celebrating New Year's with younger and older children and teens. You can also search online for additional ideas.
At Home
EARLY PARTY FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN: When you have small children who want to participate in celebrating, then celebrate midnight in another country when it is still early in your part of the world. Public events can be viewed on television and online (throughout major cities worldwide on New Year's Eve), play music, service food and snacks, dance, etc., so the entire family can enjoy before the kids get tired and go off to bed.
