Halloween Safety
Decorating, Costumes, and Trick-or-Treating
Halloween is a wonderful time to celebrate the change of season, with many cherished traditions like decorating your home, making or buying costumes, trick-or-treating, and Halloween parties. Children and teens especially enjoy Trick-or-Treating and related festivities on Halloween night. However, Halloween also presents injury risks. Common injuries include lacerations from pumpkin carving, falls during decorating, and fall and pedestrian-related injuries during trick-or-treating on Halloween night, especially during twilight hours when visibility is lower (see Halloween Injury Epidemiology: Key Facts, Risks, and Prevention). Educational Halloween Safety handouts are also available at no-cost for use.
To help you ensure a fun, safe, and memorable Halloween for you and your family, we have provided the pages below that include helpful tips and resources on decorating, costume planning, and trick-or-treating safety.
