College Game DayOne of the best experiences as a college student and even as an alumnus. The following guide are some quick tips on Saturday's Game Day that happens throughout the Autumn season including tailgate preparation, college fight songs, tailgate recipes and cookbooks, and College Football Home Pages. Tailgate Preparation
- Check with your college or university of local requirements for tailgating (check your college football home page to find your school)
- Charge mobile phone
- Check Game Day Hotline at college or university to find the Text Code or Hotline for emergencies
- Separate raw and foods to be cooked (follow food safety tips)
- Raw meat-Package carefully. Place at bottom of the cooler
- Raw fruits and vegetables in containers towards the top of the cooler or place in separate cooler
- Make sure perishable foods stay below 40° F
- Bring a multipurpose fire extinguisher to keep by the grill
During Tailgate and Game
- Follow all college or university rules for when tailgating (including but not limited to grilling, alcohol use, space, etc.)
- Place grill at a reasonable distance away from vehicle, trees and off wooden decks. Keep fire extinguisher near grill
- Cold foods - keep cold (40° F)
- Cooked foods - keep hot at least to 130° F (use thermometer)
- Wash hands after handing raw foods. Use soap, water and disposable towels
- Allow grill to cool, extinguish hot coals and place in appropriate location (many college or universities have hot coal disposal locations)
- Take all trash with you to clean your site accordingly
- Have fun! When you win, don't rush field!
- If you drink, don't drive!
